
Anton does it again â twirls second complete game as Kernels down Wisconsin, 2-0

May 19, 2008 - For the second time in ten days, Michael Anton threw a complete game shutout against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, this time at Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium, to give the Cedar Rapids Kernels a 2-0 win on Monday night.
Anton (6-2) allowed just two hits and struck out three and retired the last 19 batters in a row. The win also snapped a five game Kernels losing streak, dating back to May 13.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning as with runners on first and second, Gordie Gronkowski looped a double down the right field line to score Jay Brossman from second. The Kernels added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh as Angel Castillo doubled and scored on an RBI single by Clay Fuller.
Castillo finished the night 2 for 3. The Kernels had six hits, but three of the six were doubles and the Kernels drew four walks off Wisconsin pitchers. Rattler starter Michael Pineda (3-1) allowed a run on four hits and struck out two in taking the loss.
Game two is set for Tuesday at high noon as Michal Davitt starts for the Kernels. Gates open at 11 am on a Z 102.9 Lunch at the Ballpark.
