New York City FC's next home game of the 2026 campaign sees the Boys in Blue welcome St. Louis City SC to Citi Field on Saturday evening.

New Faces

It was a busy offseason for St. Louis City SC.

The club appointed Yoann Damet as head coach and signed seven new players to its first team. Among them is a familiar face for New York City FC fans: Dante Polvara. The midfielder from Pleasantville, New York, joined St. Louis from Aberdeen in Scotland but spent his early years in the New York City FC academy before embarking on a college soccer career at Georgetown.

Elsewhere, St. Louis orchestrated three domestic trades, signing Daniel Edelman, Rafael Santos and Lukas MacNaughton from the Red Bulls, Colorado Rapids and D.C. United, respectively. Conrad Wallem joined the team from Slavia Prague, and Mamadou Mbacke arrived in Missouri after a spell with Barcelona B.

Under Damet, St. Louis has employed some new tactical ideas compared to previous seasons. While the team still likes to press high, there is a greater desire to control possession, as evidenced by St. Louis dominating the ball in three of its five opening games this season.

Damet has also introduced a new formation built around a back three. One consequence of that system is that St. Louis seeks to create chances out wide through crosses while asking its wide players to push forward aggressively. The visitors will be keen to stretch the pitch at Citi Field, something New York City FC will need to be wary of.

Bounce Back

New York City FC has enjoyed a strong start to the season, with just one defeat in its opening five games.

That defeat came in its most recent outing against Inter Miami CF in a tightly fought contest. Pascal Jansen and his players will be eager to put that result behind them and return to winning ways on Saturday against St. Louis City SC. Strong home form is essential for a team with the ambitions of New York City FC, and that quest continues this weekend.

Meanwhile, St. Louis will look to build on the momentum from its last game against the New England Revolution. A 3-1 win saw the team come from a goal down to claim its first victory of the season, with Marcel Hartel securing the points with a memorable strike late in the second half.

Saturday's game represents an important opportunity for both teams to build momentum as they begin a jam-packed run before the World Cup.

The World's Borough

Saturday sees New York City FC return to Queens for the first time in 2026.

The team played five games at Citi Field during the 2025 regular season, winning three of those matches.

After beginning the current campaign on the road, Pascal Jansen's side now turns its attention to a run of games in New York, where it has already recorded two wins from three matches. Citi Field has been a positive venue for the team under Jansen and consistently produces a special atmosphere for the players.

With three of the team's next four games in New York-and the next two at Citi Field-this is a strong opportunity to establish it as a fortress as the team looks to climb the table and challenge at the top of the Eastern Conference.
