June 25, 2009 - The playoff-bound Cedar Rapids Kernels were stung by the Burlington Bees, 9-4, in the first game of the MWL second half on Thursday night in Burlington. The Bees rocked Kernels starter Manaurys Corea (4-5) for six runs on seven hits over four innings, including two home runs.

The Kernels took an early 3-0 lead, scoring single runs in the first three innings, with two RBI by Roberto Lopez and a solo HR by Angel Castillo. But the Bees scored five runs in the fourth inning on a two run HR by Jose Bonilla and a three run homer by Fernando Garcia.

That proved to be a big enough lead for Burlington starter Tim Melville (2-4) who allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits over six innings. Derrick Saito struck out three over the final three innings for a save.

Tyson Auer went 1-2 with a triple and scored three runs. Angel Castillo went 1-4 with a solo HR in the second inning and Roberto Lopez was 1-3 with 3 RBI. Alexi Amarista, Matt Crawford and Anel De Los Santos each had a single as the Kernels were held to six hits in the game.

The Kernels return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday, July 4th and open a 12 game home stand against the Quad Cities River Bandits. The current road trip continues through Friday, July 3rd.
