South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
Fort Wayne, IN - The Fort Wayne TinCaps continue to flex their collective muscles against South Bend in 2009, winning Friday night by an 11-3 final score. The TinCaps have now won 13 of the 14 matchups between the two squads this season, including both games in the second half thus far.
After two scoreless innings, Fort Wayne scored four runs in the bottom of the third against South Bend starter Wade Miley (LP, 3-6). With the bases loaded and one out, Daniel Robertson blooped a ball down the left field line to score two of his teammates. Justin Baum followed with a RBI single and Allan Dykstra added a sacrifice fly for the 4-0 lead.
Fort Wayne added two more runs against Miley in the bottom of the fifth. Blake Tekotte started the inning with a home run, his ninth of the season and his fourth against the Silver Hawks. Drew Cumberland followed with a single, went to second on a walk, went to third on a hit batter, and scored when reliever Yonata Ortega (ND) balked him home for the 6-0 advantage.
Fort Wayne added a run in the sixth against Ortega with Robertson picking up another RBI, and plated two in the seventh and two more in the eighth against reliever Jordan Meaker (ND).
South Bend could not muster any runs against Fort Wayne starter Stiven Osuna (WP, 3-6). Osuna held the Hawks to just three hits in 5.0 innings, striking out six and walking three.
South Bend did score three against reliever Eduardo Perez (ND) in the top of the seventh. Victor Estevez and Isaias Asencio had back-to-back singles to start the rally, but were still at first and second with two outs. Alfredo Marte ripped a double over the centerfielder to score two, and Marc Krauss added an RBI triple.
Krauss had two hits for South Bend, his first multi-hit game, and extended his hitting streak to seven games (every game that he has played for the Silver Hawks).
The four game series continues with game three Saturday night at 7:05 PM Eastern Time at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne. RHP Ryan Cook (5-5, 3.72 ERA) will try to end a personal five game losing streak in the starting role for South Bend, with Fort Wayne sending RHP Erik Davis (5-3, 4.70 ERA) to the hill. Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 PM on 1620 ESPN Radio and online at www.silverhawks.com.
