MIDLAND, MI -- The Great Lakes Loons, in cooperation with the Los Angeles Dodgers, have announced the promotion of relief pitcher Javy Guerra to the Chattanooga Lookouts (AA) of the Southern League.

The 23-year-old native of Denton, Texas served as the Loons closer over the first half of the Midwest League season, converting 16 of 18 save opportunities.

One of a franchise-record seven Great Lakes players to represent the club at the 2009 Midwest League All-Star Game in Clinton, Iowa, Guerra recorded two ninth-inning outs in helping the Eastern Division squad to a 6-3 win over the West on Tuesday night.

Guerra posted team-bests in ERA (1.54), WHIP (0.93) and opponent's batting average (.161) while appearing in a team-high 28 games in first half action. He also notched impressive ratios in two important strikeout categories, K/9 (12.1) and K/BB (3.67), registering 55 strikeouts in 41.0 innings pitched.

The right-hander spent two seasons with the Inland Empire 66ers (A) of the California League prior to joining the Loons in 2009. Guerra was selected by the Dodgers in the fourth round of the 2004 first-year player draft.

The Great Lakes Loons are the third-year Single-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
