Kernels fall to Bees, 6-0

Mark Trumbo had three of the Kernels four hits as they were shut out for the second time in four games by the Burlington Bees, 6-0, in front of 1.900 fans at Community Field in Burlington on Sunday afternoon.

Trumbo finished 3 for 4 with three singles and Scott Knazek was 1 for 3 as the Kernels were held to four hits by Burlington pitchers Ed Cegarra and Josh Cribb.

Cegarra (1-0) held the Kernels to two hits over six innings and struck out four and Cribb allowed two hits and struck out three over three innings to earn his second save.

Kernels starter Tim Schoeninger (9-3) gave up five runs on six hits over 4.1 innings to take the loss.

The Kernels fall to 1-3 in the second half and 39-34 overall. Burlington improves to 3-1 and 33-40.

Cedar Rapids returns home to Veterans Memorial Stadium on Monday to open an eight game home series with Beloit and Kane County. It will be Perfect Game USA Baseball Card night and Mix 96.5 Belly Buster Monday as the first 1,000 fans through the gates receive a free set of 2007 Kernel baseball cards. Fans can also enjoy the Belly Buster Special as for $7, plus the cost of a ticket, fans can enjoy all you can eat hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and popcorn during the game.
