West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - A much anticipated bout for the vacant Michigan State Junior Welterweight Title headlines a full card of professional boxing on Friday, June 29th at Fifth Third Ballpark when the Sprinkler Fitters Local Union 669 present Boxing at the Ballpark - Round 2.

The eight-round title bout features undefeated Vernon "The Iceman" Paris of Detroit against Grand Rapids' own Ramon Guevara. The fight is being billed as a legitimate test of both men. "We should see some really exciting action," said promoter Denny Baxter of Blue Cap Promotions. "Both men are great fighters and there is already a lot of buzz about this bout. Both men like to bang and I think the fans are going to be the big winners on Friday."

The Paris - Guevara fight, along with the rest of the event, will be broadcast on FSN Detroit at a later date. "We're really excited about the opportunity to show the whole state what a great boxing scene we have in West Michigan," said Baxter.

The remainder of the card guarantees a great night of action with two heavyweight bouts. In a special six-round special attraction match, Minneapolis heavyweight Rafael Butler takes on rugged journeyman Travis Fulton of Iowa. The tallest heavyweight in the United States, seven foot tall Julius "The Towering Inferno" Long will face Eli Dixon in another six-round match. Long is the cousin of former Detroit Piston standout John Long and Dixon, a well-respected veteran, has swapped leather with the likes of Wladimir Klitschko and Jimmy Thunder.

The night will start off with three four-round preliminary matches featuring several local boxers. Tara Davis of Owosso will attempt to stay undefeated when she meets Chicago's Treasure Saunders. Manistee's Jason Wahr meets the much more experienced Guy Packer of Battle Creek in a generation dust-up in the another preliminary match of the night. The final four-round bout will see Muskegon's Frederic Flores make his much anticipated professional debut when he steps in the ring with Ernesto Guevara of Grand Rapids.

The ring for Boxing at the Ballpark - Round 2 will be positioned between home plate and the ballpark's box seats bringing the action much closer to the stadium seating bowl. Tickets for the event start at $15 for reserved seats and go up to $60 for ringside. Fans can purchase them by calling the Whitecaps Ticket Office at 616-784-4131 or online at www.whitecapsbaseball.com. Each ticket will also serve as fans admission to the post-fight party on the Miller Lite House Deck featuring the band Mid-Life Crisis.
