
Kernels Announce Their 2023 Hall of Fame Class

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Baseball Hall of Fame Class for 2023 has been selected and will be recognized with a special pre-game ceremony prior to the Tuesday, August 29th, 6:35 PM Kernels game against the Lake County Captains.
Mark Berry | Berry played professional baseball from 1984-1990. Playing for the Cedar Rapids Reds in 1985 where he hit 7 home runs, 38 RBI, and a .267 Batting average in 93 games played. Berry returned to Cedar Rapids in 1992, this time as manager. In his first year as a manager, he would lead Cedar Rapids to an impressive 82-56 finish in the regular season. He would then lead the team to the Midwest League Title that same year. Overall, he spent 7 years as a manager (one in Cedar Rapids, 3 in Winston-Salem, & 3 in Chattanooga) compiling a record of 506-463 good for a .522 winning percentage.
Bengie Molina | The oldest of the three Molina brothers (Jose, Yadier) played in Cedar Rapids in 1994 & 1995. Molina would help lead Cedar Rapids to a Midwest League Title in 1994. That year Molina hit .284 with 3 home runs and 16 RBI. Defense was his most valuable asset, and he would be known for it once he reached the big leagues. The two-time Gold Glove winner would also help the Anaheim Angels win the World Series in 2002. Molina retired after the 2010 season. In his 13-year career, Molina hit .274 with 1317 hits and a career fielding percentage of .994 ranks 26th all-time.
Greg Seyfer | Seyfer was President of the Cedar Rapids Ball Club Inc. from 2015-2020 and joined the board in 1995. He led the organization through the 2020 Pandemic, 2020 Derecho, and the MLB reorganization of minor league baseball. Seyfer played collegiate baseball and basketball for Drake University. Seyfer is also a partner of Bradley & Riley Law firm and joined the firm in 1981.
Each year the Hall of Fame Committee votes on past players, managers, front office, and community partners to nominate inductees for the next Hall of Fame Class. The nominees for the year are chosen from the 125-year history of baseball in Cedar Rapids. The Cedar Rapids Baseball Hall of Fame is proud to honor those who have impacted the game both on and off the field.
