Keegan Kanzig Returns to Calgary
November 5, 2015 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Calgary Hitmen News Release
Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club is pleased to announce the return of 20-year-old defenceman and Calgary Flames prospect Keegan Kanzig.
Kanzig, a native of Athabasca, Alberta, began the 2015-16 season with the AHL's Stockton Heat where he appeared in one game, posting two penalty minutes in his professional debut against the Texas Stars on Oct. 21. Acquired by the Hitmen from the Victoria Royals in November 2014, the 6-foot-7, 250-pound defenceman recorded career highs in penalty minutes (166), points (22) and plus-minus (+38) in 70 games last season. Selected by the Flames in the third round, 67th overall, in the 2013 NHL Draft, Kanzig signed a three-year entry-level contract in December 2013.
The addition of Kanzig leaves the Hitmen with four over-age players in goaltender Brendan Burke, defenceman Colby Harmsworth and forward Jackson Houck. The team now has 14 days to reduce its roster to the WHL maximum of three 20-year-old players.
The Hitmen next see action tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 6, when Calgary opens a home-and-home set with the Edmonton Oil Kings. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at the Scotiabank Saddledome (Sportsnet 960-The Fan).
Individual Hitmen game tickets are available at Ticketmaster locations and the Scotiabank Saddledome box office. Order online at HitmenHockey.com or by phone at 1-855-985-5000. For more ticket information, contact customer service at 403-777-4646.
