Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

A strong pitching performance helped the Winnipeg Goldeyes finish their east coast road trip on a winning note.

Edgar Osuna went seven innings in his second start of the season, as the Goldeyes hung on to defeat the Rockland Boulders 4-3 on Saturday for their second straight series win.

The Goldeyes got out to a quick 2-0 lead. Ray Sadler's double in the game's opening inning drove home Tyler Graham to start the scoring. Winnipeg would score again in the second on a Fehlandt Lentini RBI base hit and for the second straight game, the Goldeyes took an early lead.

Winnipeg scored twice more in the fourth inning off Boulders starter Marty Popham. Luis Alen's second hit of the game brought home a run and the Goldeyes led by three. The next batter, Amos Ramon, just missed a three-run home run when his drive to leftfield stayed inside the ballpark at the warning track. It was plenty deep enough to score Lentini from third base on a sacrifice fly and Winnipeg went up 4-0.

In the eighth, the Boulders would make things interesting. After scoring once in the inning, Steve Nyisztor hit a two-run home run off Chris Kissock, the third Winnipeg reliever of the frame. But, the Goldeyes would escape the eighth with a lead intact and Patrick Keating would lock down the win in the ninth for the save.

Osuna picked up his first win as a member of the Goldeyes. He allowed only two hits while striking out five in his longest outing of the season.

Popham took the loss for the Boulders to drop to 3-5 on the season. He settled in after a rough start and pitched eight innings, giving up four runs on eight hits.

Following two off days, the Goldeyes return to action on Tuesday, July 23 when they begin a 10-day, 11-game homestand. First up for Winnipeg is the Sioux Falls Canaries with the first pitch on Tuesday is set for 7 p.m.

Tickets for all Goldeyes games are available through Ticketmaster by clicking on Ticketmaster.ca, calling 1-855-GOLDEYE or visiting any Ticketmaster outlet, including the Shaw Park box office.
