Amarillo ThunderHeads News Release

AMARILLO, TX - The bullpen and the offense earn the win for the Sox, 11-9 against the T-Bones at Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium. The official attendance was 2,745 on the Friday night game. Josh Giles earned his first win for Amarillo and Erik Draxton got his ninth save.

Kansas City took an early 2-0 lead on Sox starter, Kristhiam Linares when he gave up a two-run homer to Kyle Nichols. But a Joe Weik three-run homer in the bottom of the first put the Sox ahead and then the score was 4-2 once Adam DeLaGarza's hit up the middle scored Jorge Delgado. The Sox would not score on the T-Bones' starter, Conner Graham until five innings later.

The T-Bones took a 6-4 lead in the third inning. A sacrifice fly by Nichols and a three-run long ball by Jairo Perez did the damage. Amarillo used reliever Chandler Barnard in the fourth and he allowed a run on a pair of doubles; the run batted in by Devin Goodwin. Barnard pitched the fifth as well and gave up two runs, one earned for a combined three runs given up in two innings pitched. Luis Rivera had the two-RBI single, making it 9-4 but was caught stealing to end the inning. The T-Bones would be held scoreless by three different Sox pitchers after the fifth.

In the bottom of the sixth, Brandon Jones and DeLaGarza both singled to start the inning. A run batted in by KC Serna and then a fielder's choice groundball RBI by Chris Valencia made it 9-6 as he beat out a potential double play. The Kansas City starter went three batters into the seventh as Graham allowed a single Chris Grossman and then an RBI double to Cory Patton before being pulled. Josh Hildebrand came in with an out, hit his first batter, walked the next to load the bases, and then gave up a three-run triple to Serna. Amarillo took their one-run lead into the next inning. Three pitchers were used by the T-Bones in the eighth including Alex Thieroff, Justin Albert, who allowed a hit in one batter faced, and Chad Robinson who gave up the RBI single to Jones. Thieroff was charged with the run as he walked the first batter of the inning.

Josh Giles (W, 1-3) put down Kansas City in order during the seventh so it was Erik Draxton (S, 9) who earned the two-inning-save for the Sox. Both pitchers struck out one batter, allowed one hit, and induced a double play. Jeff Lyman pitched the sixth inning while striking out one and walking one and giving up a hit with no runs scored. Josh Hildebrand (L, 1-1) earns a decision in each of his last two outings coming within two days of each other. Hildebrand went two-thirds of an inning while allowing two runs on one hit with two walks. Kansas City's starter, Conner Graham went six and a third and gave up eight runs, five earned on eleven hits while walking one and striking out five.

With the victory, the Sox move to 32-24, while the T-Bones fall to 23-37 on the season. Saturday, the Sox host Kansas City for the third of a four-game series.
