Sioux Falls, SD - Sioux Falls (26-35) pounded Will Krout for the second time this season as the RailCats (34-26) lost their fifth straight ball game. The 9-3 decision earned a series victory for Sioux Falls, their second of the year against the RailCats.
The Canaries grabbed the first run of the day on a solo home run by Nate Baumann to lead off the bottom of the second inning.
Sioux Falls continued their powerful offense in the third. Tim Pahuta unloaded on the first pitch he saw from Will Krout over the wall in right. The two-run homer scored Jared Clark who had reached on an infield single.
In the fourth, Pahuta hammered his second homerun of the game, a three-run shot off Krout that capped off a four-run inning for Sioux Falls to grab a 7-0 lead.
Pahuta finished the night 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and five driven in. It was his third multi-homer game of the season.
Sioux Falls continued their offensive assault in the fifth inning, knocking Will Krout from the game. Krout allowed three straight hits to begin the inning capped off by Stephen King's RBI single. Taylor Sewitt entered and allowed a sac fly to Nick Van Stratten to cap off the four-run frame to make it 9-0 Canaries.
Will Krout allowed nine runs on 13 hits and walked three. It was Krout's fifth loss of the season. He allowed a season-high three home runs.
Canaries starter Ben Moore struck out seven over the first four frames in the game. The RailCats recorded just one hit over the first five innings, a bunt single by Zac Mitchell in the third.
Moore left with an injury after covering first base in the seventh inning of the game. Heallowed one run on four hits in six and a third innings. He picked up his seventh win on the year and struck out seven RailCats..
The RailCats offense awoke in the late innings scoring a single run in each of the their last three at-bats.
In the seventh, with Ryan Babineau on second, Christian Vitters doubled off the wall in left field to make it 9-1. In the eighth, Ryan Babineau dropped an RBI single into shallow center to score Ryan Brockett.
Zac Mitchell drove in his 32nd run of the year with a sacrifice fly to left in the ninth inning. The RailCats managed nine hits in the game but eight of them came when they had a 9-0 deficit to deal with.
The RailCats complete their four-game set with Sioux Falls on Sunday. LHP Ari Ronick (5-5, 4.61) goes for the RailCats, the Canaries will send LHP Adam Champion (4-5, 6.04). The radio broadcast will begin at 1:00 p.m. on 89.1 FM the Lakeshore and RailCatsbaseball.com
