Saltdogs Hold Down Wingnuts

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts (41-20) lost 5-1 to the Lincoln Saltdogs (34-27) at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Saturday night.

Lincoln scored four times in the top of the third to take control of the game. Walks to Mike Coles, Curt Smith, and Ian Gac helped load the bases with one out. Jon Gaston broke a scoreless tie with a two-run double to left-center field. Matt Forgatch followed with a two-run triple to right-center that made it 4-0.

Wichita scratched out its lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning. John Rodriguez drove in Jared McDonald with a two-out, infield single that deflected off the glove of Lincoln starter Pete Parise.

Ian Gac's RBI infield single with two outs in the top of the ninth accounted for Lincoln's final run.

Parise earned the win, allowing one earned run on eight hits over seven innings. Parise walked one and struck out four.

Anthony Capra started for the Wingnuts and took the loss, allowing four earned runs on three hits in five innings of work. Capra walked six and struck out eight.

Josh Stone, Daniel Bennett, and Lincoln Holdzkom each threw a scoreless inning of relief. Rodriguez and C.J. Ziegler each had multi-hit games for the Wingnuts. Cole Armstrong singled in the bottom of the seventh and has hit safely in seven in a row.

The series concludes on Sunday afternoon at 3:16 p.m. Chris Smith faces Lincoln right-hander Mike Burns. The two veterans were teammates on the Milwaukee Brewers in 2009. Individual tickets can be purchased by calling (316) 755-SEAT, or by visiting www.selectaseat.com
