
Streak Ends as Rally Falls Short

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts (41-19) had their 13-game winning streak come to an end on Friday night in a 6-5 loss to the Lincoln Saltdogs (33-27) at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
Wichita rallied from deficits of 5-0 and 6-2 over the final two innings to bring the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth. Trailing 5-0 in the eighth, Jake Kahaulelio singled on a hard groundball to center field. John Rodriguez followed with a colossal home run to straightaway center field that cut the Saltdogs' lead to 5-2.
Lincoln added a run in the top of the ninth on an RBI single to center from Mike Coles.
In the bottom of the final inning, Ryan Khoury laid down a bunt single with one out. Kahaulelio then reached on an infield single that struck third base umpire Brock Ballou. With runners on first and second, Rodriguez pulled a line drive, three-run homer to right-center that pulled the Wingnuts within one run. Lincoln closer R.J. Rodriguez relieved Conor Spink and retired C.J. Ziegler and Brent Clevlen to earn the save.
Tyler Goodro gave Lincoln an early 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly to center in the top of the second.
David Espinosa hit a two-run triple to right-center in the top of the fifth that made it 3-0. Espinosa scored Lincoln's fourth run on a third strike to Curt Smith that resulted in a wild pitch.
Ian Gac made it 5-0 Saltdogs with a solo home run to left-center in the top of the eighth.
Lincoln starter Travis Parker earned the win. Parker threw five shutout innings on three hits, walked three, and struck out one.
Junior Guerra started for the Wingnuts and took the loss. Guerra allowed four earned runs on seven hits over seven innings. Guerra walked two and struck out five.
The Wingnuts and Saltdogs play game three of their four-game series Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Anthony Capra faces right-hander Pete Parise. Individual tickets can be purchased by calling (316) 755-SEAT, or by visiting www.selectaseat.com
