Toledo Walleye News Release

(Toledo, Ohio) The Toledo Storm of the ECHL announced today that they have reached an agreement with long time Detroit Red Wings singer Karen Newman to perform the National Anthem and O Canada prior to Toledo's February 29th contest. The Wheeling Nailers will be in town for that Sunday afternoon game with a start time of 3pm.

Karen, who is currently touring with artist Kid Rock, talked about coming to Toledo "I am very excited about singing in Toledo for the great Toledo Storm fans. I believe that hockey fans are the greatest fans in the world, and Toledo is no exception to that. I have very strong feelings about the sport and about its' passionate fans. Toledo is a great hockey town and everyone in Detroit shares that thought about the Storm."

Newman is currently in her thirteenth season singing for the Detroit Red Wings, and still says that her greatest moment was singing prior to the Red Wings winning the Stanley Cup in 1997. In addition to being a background vocalist for Bob Seger, Karen has also produced 4 albums over her career. Newman has been a television spokesperson for many Detroit area companies, and just recently hit the National stage as the spokesperson for the Discount Tire Company.

Vice President and General Manager of the Toledo Storm Mike Miller stated, "We are very pleased to have Karen coming to Toledo. Karen has been big part of the Detroit Red Wings organization for a very long time, and is a very accomplished vocalist. I know our fans will enjoy having her in Toledo."

The Toledo Storm are home this Friday and Saturday night against the Roanoke Express.
