Salisbury, Md. - The Kannapolis Intimidators(6-1) scored the first six runs of the game and defeated the Delmarva Shorebirds 9-5 in the series finale at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. The Intimidators earn the series sweep over the Shorebirds.
Kannapolis entered the series finale with six home runs through the first three games of the series. With Dan Black at second and Juan Silverio at first, Kenny Gilbert hit a three-run homer off the foul pole in left field to give the Intimidators a 3-0 lead.
Kannapolis added three more runs in the third. Ross Wilson was hit by a pitch to start the frame. Then, Brady Shoemaker singled. Tim Adleman retired the next two batters before running into trouble. After Juan Silverio singled to load the bases, Adleman walked the next two batters and hit the third to force in three runs.
The Shorebirds responded in the third inning with two runs. Justin Dalles and Brenden Webb hit back-to-back singles to open the third inning. Trent Mummey followed with an RBI groundout to second. Mychal Givens then bounced out to third to bring home Webb and cut the deficit to 6-2.
Kannapolis plated another run in the fourth inning on a double by Mike Blanke to take a 7-2 lead.
The Shorebirds responded with three runs in the seventh inning. Webb led off with a single. After two outs were recorded, Kipp Schutz and Kieron Pope reached to load the bases for Jonathan Schoop. The shortstop hit a line drive single to right field to score all three runners. The right fielder Kenny Gilbert mishandled the hit by Schoop to allow all three runs to score.
Kannapolis tallied a run in the eighth and one more in the ninth to build a 9-5 lead.
Chase Cooney, the younger brother of former Shorebirds pitcher Brandon Cooney, earned the win in three innings of relief. Tim Adleman was pinned with the loss in three innings. He allowed six hits and six runs.
The Shorebirds travel to Greensboro, North Carolina to play the Grasshoppers on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
