Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Rome, GA - Five Rome doubles pushed the Braves out to a 4-0 lead that proved insurmountable for the Augusta GreenJackets in a 4-2 loss to the Braves on Thursday night. The Braves took three of four from Augusta, who dropped six of eight on their season-opening road trip.
Back-to-back doubles in the third and sixth for Rome secured and extended a lead that the Braves never lost. Elmer Reyes and Christian Bethancourt did the job in the third while Jakob Dalfonso and Barrett Kleinknecht stretched the lead to four in the sixth with their two-baggers.
Augusta struck back in the seventh, cutting the lead in half. Devin Harris connected for a two-run home run to deep left-center to score Josh Mazzola, who led off the inning with a base hit. Rome starter Steven Kent (1-1) settled down after the home run and retired the next three hitters to end the inning. He gave way to Dan Jurick who retired six of the seven hitters he faced to earn his first save of the year.
The only man to reach off Jurick was Mazzola, who walked in the ninth to bring the tying run to the plate with one out. Back-to-back strikeouts from Jurick sealed the win for the Braves.
Seth Rosin (0-1), making his GreenJackets debut, allowed four runs - all earned - on eight hits and a walk in 5.1 innings without striking anyone out. Six of the eight hits off Rosin went for extra bases.
The GreenJackets play their home opener on Friday against the West Virginia Power. Augusta sends Austin Fleet (0-1) to the mound to face lefty Zack Dodson (1-0). First pitch will come at a special 7:35 start time with the pregame action beginning at 7:20, airing online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com .
