Sanchez Placed on DL, McCoy Promoted from Staten Island

CHARLESTON, SC - The New York Yankees announced Thursday that Charleston RiverDogs catcher Gary Sanchez has been placed on the 7-day DL, retroactive to April 12. Catcher Nick McCoy replaces Sanchez on the roster, added from the Staten Island Yankees.

Sanchez, the No. 2 prospect in the Yankees system according to Baseball America, was batting .238 with a home run, two doubles and 2 RBI in his first five games as a RiverDog. The 18-year old Dominican native hit a combined .329 with 8 home runs and 43 RBI between the GCL Yankees and Staten Island Yankees last season.

McCoy, a 36th round pick of the Yankees in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft, batted .237 with four doubles and 7 RBI over 20 games with the Staten Island Yankees during his rookie professional season. The 5-9, San Diego native hit .315 with four home runs and 35 RBI as a senior at the University of San Diego before entering the draft.

The RiverDogs wrap up an eight-game road-trip tonight against the Greenville Drive before returning to Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park to open the home slate with a nine-game homestand, Friday, April 15, versus the Rome Braves.
