Dogs Muzzled Again, Greenville Wins 3-0

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Three Greenville pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout, as the Drive topped the RiverDogs, 3-0, in South Atlantic League action at Fluor Field Thursday night.

Charleston concluded its season-opening road trip with a 3-5 record, while Greenville improved to 6-2.

A 0-0 tie lasted to the fourth inning, when Greenville scored twice to take a 2-0 lead. Drew Hedman's RBI single off Charleston's Mikey O'Brien scored one run and when the ball was booted in the outfield, Bryce Brentz came around to score the unearned second run.

The Drive increased that lead to 3-0 on a two-out RBI single in the fifth by Bryce Brentz, made possible on via an errant pickoff throw after Sean Coyle walked to start the inning.

Anthony Ranaudo, the 39th overall pick in last year's draft, started and worked 4.0 shutout innings, permitting two base hits with three walks and five strikeouts in a no-decision. Garrett Rau tossed 2.2 scoreless innings, while Tyler Lockwood pitched the last 2.1 frames to end the contest and record his first save.

The RiverDogs recorded just three from three different players and had only one hit over the final seven innings.

O'Brien (0-1) pitched very well in 4.2 innings, giving up three runs - one earned - on just two base hits, while walking two and fanning a season-high seven batters in taking the loss.

Charleston returns to the friendly confines of Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park for the 2011 home opener against the Rome Braves in first of a four-game series as part of a season-long nine-game homestand. Friday's tilt, set for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch, features RiverDogs' southpaw Kramer Sneed (0-1, 5.40 ERA) toeing the rubber against Rome left-hander Ronan Pacheco (0-0, 0.00 ERA).
