
Kane County Takes Series Finale over Kernels, 5-1

Geneva, IL - Kane County scored three runs in the 5th inning and downed the Kernels 5-1 at Elfstrom Stadium on Friday evening. Kane County put the first run on the board in the 2nd inning. Jake Kuebler led off with a single against Kernels starter Brian Diemer and later came home to score on a RBI infield single by Julio Aparicio, giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
The Kernels tied the game in the 4th inning with an unearned run against Kane County starter Leondy Perez. Rolando Gomez began the inning with a single to center field. Jeremy Cruz then singled to left. Kane County left fielder Jovan Pickett bobbled the ball, allowing Gomez and Cruz to advance one more base. Gomez then came home on a RBI sacrifice fly by Ricky Alvarez, tying the game 1-1.
The Cougars got the run right back in the bottom of the 4th inning. Brett Eibner and Cheslor Cuthbert led off the inning with back to back singles. Eibner later scored on a RBI sacrifice fly by Orlando Calixte, giving Kane County a 2-1 advantage.
Kane County scored three more in the 5th inning, extending their lead to 5-1. Pickett singled to begin the inning and came home on a RBI triple by Angel Franco, making the score 3-1. A RBI single by Geulin Beltre plated Franco, giving the Cougars a 4-1 lead. A single by Eibner moved Beltre to third base. Beltre then scored on a passed ball by Kernels catcher Marcus Nidiffer, pushing Kane County's lead to 5-1.
Diemer (8-8) went all eight innings for the Kernels. He allowed five runs (four earned) on 13 hits while striking out three and walking none.
Leondy Perez (3-11) went seven innings for Kane County, allowing one unearned run on five hits while striking out four and walking one. Chase Boruff pitched the final two innings, allowing no runs on two hits.
