Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

DAYTON, Ohio - The TinCaps' bullpen came up big in a 2-1 win over the Dayton Dragons, Friday at Fifth Third Field. Cory Spangenberg scored a run and drove in the other as Fort Wayne's speed led to both tallies.

The game was marred by a two-hour, 33-minute rain delay; the actual game play took just two hours, 29 minutes.

In the top of the third, a downpour descended upon downtown Dayton, forcing a stoppage. When the game restarted, the TinCaps scored the first run. Spangenberg led off the fourth with an infield single, stole second and scored when Luis Domoromo flipped an RBI single into right field.

Dayton tied it in the bottom of the fourth. David Vidal drew a walk and scored when Donald Lutz yanked an RBI triple into the right-field corner.

The TinCaps retook the lead in the sixth. Rico Noel singled, stole second and third, then scored when Spangenberg hit a chopper to the shortstop, making it 2-1.

Fort Wayne's bullpen put together a strong performance. With starting RHP Zach Cates finished by the rain delay, RHPs Deiber Sanchez, Adam Dominick, Chris Franklin and Kevin Quackenbush combined for seven innings and allowed just one run on three hits.

Sanchez (3-1) was awarded the win after three innings of work; Dayton LHP Mitch Clarke (1-1) took the loss. Quackenbush fired a perfect ninth to snag his second save.

The TinCaps upped their record to 18-15 in the half, 48-54 for the season. Dayton fell to 23-10 since the all-star break, 58-45 on the year.

With the win and a Great Lakes loss, the TinCaps are tied with the Loons for the final playoff spot in the second half. The Loons (Class-A Los Angeles Dodgers) come to Parkview Field on Saturday to open a three-game series against Fort Wayne at 7:05 p.m. TinCaps RHP Dennis O'Grady (1-0) takes the ball against Loons LHP Greg Wilborn (2-1).
