Captains stave off Lugnuts' rallies, 7-5

LANSING, Mich. - The Lake County Captains (16-18, 44-59) got on the board early and held off a late Lansing Lugnuts (22-12, 60-41) charge to hang on to a 7-5 win in front of 10,783 fans at Cooley Law School Stadium on Saturday night.

The Captains tallied four runs against Lugnuts starter Marcus Walden (Loss, 5-3) in the first three innings. The big blow came from Moises Montero, who knocked an RBI double to centerfield and finished the game 2-for-4 with a pair of two-baggers.

Captains starter Felix Sterling (Win, 2-0) held the Lugs at bay for the first five innings before surrendering an RBI-single to K.C. Hobson.

Lake County's final blow was a Giovanny Urshela two-run home run in the eighth inning of Lugnuts reliever Shawn Griffith.

The Lugnuts offense was led by Markus Brisker who finished 2-for-4 with a run scored, and was helped by Matt Nuzzo, who went 1-for-3 with a double and two runs driven in.

Lansing lefty Sean Nolin (2-2, 3.79) will try to stop the six-game win streak in game two of the series against Lake County right-hander Cole Cook (5-10, 4.28), a 2:05 p.m. Kids Day at Cooley Law School Stadium.
