Clinton, IA - The Peoria Chiefs scored two runs in the ninth inning to snap a five-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over the Clinton LumberKings Saturday night.

The win moves the Chiefs to 11-23 on the half and 44-60 on the season, two games better than Clinton.

The Chiefs fell behind early after going in order in the first two innings against Taijuan Walker. With one out in the second inning Stefan Romero crushed a solo homer to left field off Matt Loosen. The shot, his 13th of the season, put Clinton on top 1-0.

Peoria didn't break through against Walker in the first five innings but they evened the game against Matt Bischoff in the sixth. Arismendy Alcantara led off with a double and Taiwan Easterling singled up the middle to tie the game 1-1. Neither team was able to break the tie over the next two innings though the Chiefs left three runners in scoring position.

Richard Jones led off the ninth against Tyler Burgoon with a single to left to put the winning run on base. Anthony Giansanti put the Chiefs on top for the first time in the game with a triple to the right-center field wall as Jones scored easy. After a strikeout, Elliot Soto made it 3-1 with a sacrifice fly to right to bring home Giansanti. Daniel Berlind retired Clinton in order in the bottom of the ninth to preserve the victory.

Loosen struck out four over five innings while walking two and allowing one run on three hits. P.J. Francescon (1-3) earned his first career win with three shutout innings. He allowed one hit and struck out two. Berlind threw a perfect ninth for his first save of the season.
