Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

Today's Game: The TinCaps and Loons open a three-game series at Parkview Field. This is the 14th of 16 meetings between the divisional opponents this year.

Yesterday: The TinCaps and Dayton played past midnight thanks to a twohour, 33-minute rain delay; Fort Wayne won the rubber match of the series, 2- 1. Cory Spangenberg scored a run and drove in the other while the bullpen was forced to work 7IP and allowed just 1ER. RHP Kevin Quackenbush delivered a perfect ninth inning to notch his second save in a TinCaps uniform. The TinCaps won 2 of 3 in the road series; they have won six consecutive series.

The Loons were defeated by South Bend, 5-4 in 10 innings. Matt Helm's RBI double was the difference. Jesse Bosnik homered twice and Nick Akins swatted a solo home run for Great Lakes. The Loons scored the tying run when the Silver Hawks failed to complete a double play on a comebacker to the mound. Great Lakes was swept in the 3G home series.

Season Series: The TinCaps are 4-10 against the Dragons this year. Fort Wayne is hitting .207 in the season series with just 3HR in 14G, with Cory Spangenberg (2G, .375, 3x8, 2R) leading the way. Dayton is hitting .262 and the pitching staff holds a 2.43ERA; David Vidal (13G, .413, 19x46, 5 2B, 3B, 4HR, 8R, 15RBI) has been tough on Fort Wayne along with Dominic D'Anna (12G, .372, 16x43, 5 2B, HR, 8R, 8RBI).

Today's Starting Pitchers: The TinCaps send RH Dennis O'Grady to the mound against Great Lakes LH Greg Wilborn. O'Grady, 22, makes just his seventh appearance as a pro, his sixth start. He last pitched last Saturday vs. Quad Cities, going 3.1IP 7H 6R (4ER) 3BB 2K in a loss. O'Grady was drafted this year in the 34th round out of Duke University, where he was a two-way player. He played first base, second base, left field and DH while not pitching. At Duke, he was teammates with former TinCaps 1B Nate Freiman. In 1GS vs. the Loons, he is 1-0, 1.50ERA (6IP 4H 1ER 1BB 5K).

Wilborn, 24, makes his seventh start of the year with the Loons. Last time out (Monday vs. Wisconsin) he took a loss going 5IP 5H 3R (2ER) 2BB 9K. Wilborn opened the season in the starting rotation with Advanced-A Rancho Cucamonga where he went 2-3, 1SV, 6.85ERA before being sent down to the Loons in mid-June. Last year he went 8-2, 2.62ERA between Rookie-level Ogden and Great Lakes. Wilborn was an 18th-round selection in the 2009 draft out of Louisiana-Lafayette, where he missed the 2008 season recovering from Tommy John surgery.
