Captains Defeat the Lugnuts 7-5

Lake County Captains News Release


(Lansing, MI)- Giovanny Urshela's two run homerun in the top of the eighth inning was the difference on Saturday night at Cooley Law School as Lake County defeated Lansing 7-5. The Captains stay three games back of the wild card with their sixth straight win.

Lake County jumped in front 3-0 in the second inning; Moises Montero got the team on the board with an RBI double to center scoring Chase Burnette. Brian Heere grounded out to first but it scored Ronny Rodriguez. Montero scored from third on a Marcus Walden wild pitch.

In the third inning, Burnette delivered a two out single to leftfield scoring Urshela giving the Captains a 4-0 lead.

Lake County added a run in the seventh inning to make 5-2, when Montero scored from third on a balk by Sam Strickland.

Felix Sterling (2-0) picked up the win working 5.1 innings allowing two runs on five hits, walking three and striking out six. Kyle Petter worked the ninth for his first save of the season. Walden (5-3) took the loss allowing four runs on four hits, in five innings of work, walking one.

Lake County and Lansing will continue the series on Sunday afternoon at Cooley Law School Stadium at 2:05PM. RHP Cole Cook (5-10) will start for the Captains against LHP Sean Nolin (2-2) for the Lugnuts. Catch all the action on AM 970 WFUN or online at captainsbaseball.com.
