Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - Going into Friday's start vs. Kane County (12-17), Pat Peterson (L, 4-2) had allowed only three earned runs over his first five starts. Friday night however, the Cougars knocked Peterson out of the game in the fifth inning, as the lefty allowed a career high eight runs, six earned, over just 4.1 innings.

The LumberKings (12-17) fell into an early hole for the 13th time in 14 home games, as they saw the opponent score first. After Jose Queliz doubled off of Peterson with two outs in the second inning, Clinton shortstop Gianfranco Wawoe misplayed a ground ball off the bat of Victor Reyes, which plated Queliz. Kane County added on two more in the third, and led 3-0 in route to an 11-4 win.

The LumberKings responded with three runs off of Kane County starter Brad Keller (W, 1-3), who had arguably his worst start of the season. The righty pitched five innings and matched a season high in earned runs allowed with three. After Keller retired the first two in the fourth inning, four consecutive Clinton hitters reached base. After a double by Estarlyn Morales and a walk to Joe DeCarlo, Alex Jackson put Clinton on the board with an RBI single, while Wayne Taylor followed with a two-RBI double.

With the game tied 3-3, the wheels fell off for Clinton in the top of the fifth. Kane County sent 11 men to the plate in the inning, which featured a walk, a hit batter, and six hits. The Cougars used RBI singles by Josh Elander, Fernery Ozuna, Queliz, Reyes, and Colin Bray in the inning, as six consecutive men reached base in the inning. Osmer Morales relieved Peterson with one out in the frame, allowed two inherited runners to score, and one earned run himself. Kane County led 9-3 after 5.5 innings.

The scoring came to a halt until the ninth inning, one in which both teams scored. Kane County scored two runs off of Jarrett Brown, one earned, while the LumberKings plated one off of Zac Curtis on Taylor's second double of the game. Taylor finished 2-4 with two doubles and a season high three runs driven in.

Through the first seven games in May, Clinton had a team ERA of 1.89. After surrendering a season high 11 runs, eight earned, Clinton's May ERA now sits at 2.62. The LumberKings also allowed a season high in hits with 16. Four Cougars starters recorded multiple hits, while Marty Herum (4-6) became the first opponent to record four hits vs. Clinton in 2015.

For the fourth straight series, Clinton has won the opener and dropped game two, and will thus play the series finale for the series win. Lukas Schiraldi (2-2, 3.75) will start for the LumberKings, coming off of his best start of the season, six shutout innings vs. Peoria on 5/4, while Markus Solbach (1-2, 3.72) will get the ball for the second time this season vs. Clinton. First pitch of the finale is set for 2:00 CT in Clinton. The LumberKings broadcast can be heard on WCCI 100.3 FM, WCCIRadio.com, and LumberKings.com.
