Kane County Cougars News Release

CLINTON, Iowa- The Kane County Cougars (12-17) found an answer to their offensive struggles as they collected 11 runs against the Clinton LumberKings (12-17) to even the series. The Cougars' 11-4 win at Ashford University Field Friday night ended a four-game skid.

Jumping out to a 3-0 lead, the Cougars matched as many runs in the first three innings as they did in their last four games.

Brad Keller (1-3) put away the first 11 Clinton hitters before the LumberKings put together a three-run bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game. Keller left after the fifth setting himself up for his first win of the season.

The Cougars answered Clinton's efforts tying the game by plating half a dozen runs in the top of the fifth inning. Sending eleven hitters to the plate, Joe Munoz, Josh Elander and Fernery Ozuna all drove in runs before LumberKings starter Pat Peterson (4-2) was knocked out of the game. Jose Queliz, Victor Reyes and Colin Bray did not let up on Clinton's reliever as they drove home three more.

Throughout the night every Cougar recorded either one hit or drove in one run.

Nick Baker took over for Keller facing just one batter over the minimum during the sixth through eighth innings.

More scoring came in the ninth as the Cougars plated a pair. Despite allowing one run, Zac Curtis finished off the bottom of the ninth by striking out the side.

The Cougars now have a chance to take the series with the rubber game on Saturday. Markus Solbach (1-2, 3.72) takes the mound against Clinton's Lukas Schiraldi (2-2, 3.75). First pitch from Ashford University Field is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Coverage on AM 1280 WBIG and kccougars.com begins at 1:45 p.m.
