Burlington Bees News Release
(Burlington-IA) - Michael Bolaski struck out a season high six hitters in a Bees' 3-2 loss to the Peoria Chiefs at Community Field on Friday night.
Peoria wasted no time getting the scoring started, as Nick Thompson put the Peoria Chiefs on the board in the top of the first inning, with a solo blast to left, his second homerun of the season, making the score 1-0.
Andrew Sohn was hit by a pitch to lead off the top of the second, and then stole second and moved to third on a throwing error. While Blake Drake was at the plate, Sohn came home to score on a wild pitch, extending Peoria's lead to 2-0.
With two outs in the bottom of fourth inning, Zach Houchins reached second on a single and an error. Fran Whitten picked up his first of two hits, sending a single to right, scoring Houchins, cutting the Chiefs' lead to 2-1.
After Justin Ringo grounded out to begin the seventh inning, Luis Cruz and Magneuris Sierra singled back-to-back and Andrew Sohn drew a walk to load the bases. With rain falling throughout the game, play was halted for field work. After a 17 minute delay, Alex Klonowski came on in relief and struckout Blake Drake. Oscar Mercado drove in the Chiefs' third run of the game with an infield singlle, making the score 3-1 as Sierra was caught between third and home, ending the inning.
Andrew Daniel, who homered the night before, sent a solo shot over the left field wall, in the bottom of the eighth inning, making the score 3-2.
The Bees threatened in the ninth as Fran Whitten led off with a single. Raul Linares came in to pinch run and moved to second on a passed ball. After a Wade Wass strikeout, Trevor Gretzky walked, putting runners at first and second with one out. Kyle Grana (5) went on to get Erick Salcedo to pop out and Kasey Coffman to ground out, recording the save, securing the Chiefs' 3-2 win.
Peoria starter Matt Pearce (2-2) picked up the win while Bees' starter Michael Bolaski was charged with the loss. The Bees and the Chiefs wrap up the series tomorrow night at 6:30. Keynan Middleton starts for the Bees against Fernando Baez for the Chiefs. For tickets, visit gobees.com or stop by the Bees' office. For more information, call (319)-754-5705.
