West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

DAYTON, OH - A dominant performance by the West Michigan Whitecaps bullpen allowed the team to win their third-straight game with a 4-3 victory over the Dayton Dragons Friday night.

West Michigan went without a base hit for the first five innings of the contest despite drawing six walks off Dragons starter Wyatt Strahan. Trailing 3-1 in the sixth, catcher Shane Zeile launched a two-run double to the left-center field gap to tie the game at three, and second baseman Joey Pankake ripped an RBI-single to left to give the 'Caps a 4-3 edge.

Whitecaps starter Trent Szkutnik pitched 5.2 innings allowing three runs before Gabe Hemmer came on in relief to toss 2.1 scoreless frames, allowing only a walk and striking out five. Joe Jimenez struck out the side in the ninth for his second save. Of the final nine hitters that 'Caps relievers retired, seven of those were set down with strikeouts. Dayton committed three errors in the ballgame, and have committed eight in the first two games of this series. The Whitecaps record improves to 13-16, while Dayton's record falls to 15-14.
