Kalamazoo Wings News Release

The Kalamazoo Wings started their week on Wednesday (1/4) on the road against the Danbury Trashers. After Danbury jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, Kalamazoo answered back with two first period goals from Tyler Rennette (18) and Greg Labenski (6) to give the K-Wings a 2-1 lead after the first period. The second period proved to be a defensive battle between the teams; however, Danbury's Alex Goupil (12) would get his team on the scoreboard by netting the period's lone goal. With the game tied at 2-2, the K-Wings would take control in the third period scoring four of the game's next five goals. Danbury would attempt a comeback, scoring three goals in the final period, but it wouldn't be enough, as the K-Wings defeated the Trashers 6-5.

On Friday (1/6), the K-Wings stayed on the road with their first of two consecutive games in Roanoke against the Vipers. Kalamazoo scored the game's first goal near the midway part of the first period, when Kory Karlander scored his 13th goal of the year off the power-play. The Vipers answered back at the 7:57 mark of the second period when David Beauregard (21) scored a power-play tally of his own to knot the game at 1-1. Just one minute and eight seconds after the Vipers the tied the game, the K-Wings took the lead for good, when Nick Bootland (15) scored off a face-off to give the K-Wings 2-1 victory in Roanoke.

The K-Wings and Vipers would meet again on Saturday (1/7) to conclude Kalamazoo's four-game road swing. Roanoke dominated the opening period scoring four goals. The K-Wings attempted the comeback scoring the game's next three goals, including two for forward Tyler Willis (10,11), but the K-Wings would come just short as Roanoke defeated Kalamazoo 4-3.
