Richmond RiverDogs News Release
January 6, 2006 vs Muskegon (6-2 L)
Jeff Nelson and Ryan Keller combined for eight points total and a four goal run took the Muskegon Fury to a 6-2 victory over the Richmond RiverDogs before a crowd of 3,898 at the Richmond Coliseum. Muskegon got on the board with a pair of goals from David Wrigley and Nigel Hawryliw in the first. Mike Oliveira continues his scoring magic by cutting the Fury lead 2-1 before the end of the first stanza. Things got very interesting when John DiPace tied the score 2-2 early in the second period. From that point on, it was all Muskegon as they scored four straight to secure the win. Although the Fury got the victory, the RiverDogs outshot their opponents 31-27, the third time the Dogs have out-shot teams this season.
January 7, 2006 vs Muskegon (4-1 L)
Mike Oliveira got the RiverDogs going late in the first period at 16:36 with a 1-0 lead before the Muskegon Fury, led by a pair of markers from veteran Jeff Nelson, rolled off four straight for a 4-1 victory before a crowd of 4,692 on Richmond Times-Dispatch Night. The RiverDogs were a perfect 4-4 on the penalty kill and kept the Fury to only 31 shots. Doug Groenestege was in goal for the RiverDogs.
January 8, 2006 @ Elmira (4-2 L)
Konstantin Kalmikov scored one goal and a pair of assists as the Elmira Jackals defeat the Richmond RiverDogs by the score 4-2. Elmira went out in front just 20 seconds into the match with a goal from Eddy Lowe. Richmond leveled the score early in the second period on a power play goal from newcomer Evgeny Lazarov at 1:23 of the second period. The tie lasted just 11 seconds as Kevin Cooper put the Jackals in front, 2-1. Jarrett Konkle made the score 3-1 in the third stanza. The RiverDogs Dan Vandermeer closed the gap at 3-2 on the RiverDogs second power play in the contest. The RiverDogs pulled goaltender Mike D'Alessandro for an extra attacker, however Kalmikov ended the contest with an empty net goal for an Elmira Jackals victory. With the win, Elmira has now tied the RiverDogs for 4th place in the Eastern Division at 27 points. Kris Waltz was behind the bench for the RiverDogs while General Manager/Head Coach Robbie S. Nichols observed the action from the Press Box.
