
Kinnie named UHL Player of the Week

Flint, MI - The Flint Generals of the United Hockey League are pleased to announce that Mike Kinnie has been named the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week for his play this past weekend. Kinnie signed with the Generals last week and played his first game in over 8 months on Friday. He was first star of the game with 4 points (2 goals and 2 assists) as the Generals came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Missouri River Otters 5-4. On Saturday night the Generals trailed 3-0 and rallied back to win again. Kinnie had another 4 point game (2 goals and 2 assists) as the Generals won in front of a season high 3,961 fans.
In total, Kinnie had 9 points in three games this weekend (4g, 5a) and was a plus 2.
Kinnie, 23, was a leading candidate for UHL rookie of the year last season before being called up to the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League. A native of Shelby Township, Kinnie had 81 points (37 goals and 44 assists) last season in his 72 games with the Flint Generals. Kinnie finished last season among the UHL scoring leaders and earned a spot on the UHL All-Rookie Team.
GENERALS PLAY COMEBACK ALL WEEKEND
FRIDAY NIGHT at Perani Arena & Event Center
Generals trailed 2-0 and won 5-4 in front of 3,005 fans at Perani Arena.
SATURDAY at Perani Arena & Event Center
Generals trailed 3-0 and won 5-4 in a shootout against Danbury in front of 3,961 fans.
SUNDAY @ Motor City
Trailed 2-0 and 5-2. Tied the game 5-5 only to lose in the final minute to Motor City.
OTHER NOMINATION
Jason Saal was also nominated for Goaltender of the Week. Despite not having the statistical numbers to win, Saal kept the Generals in both home games this weekend and allowed his team to come from behind to win both contests. With a combined total of almost 7,000 fans watching both games at Perani Arena & Event Center this weekend, the fans certainly were not disappointed as Saal made crucial saves in both games and earned his 2 wins facing 57 shots and making 52 saves in 112:10 minutes of playing time. Saal remains among the league leaders in minutes played with 1443:24 minutes and 681 saves.
NOTABLE: Leo Thomas and Jason Selleke both have six game point scoring streaks. Thomas has also had a goal in five straight games. Mike Kinnie and Terry Marchant each have three game assist streaks. The Generals are in Muskegon Tuesday morning for a game and then head to Danbury and Elmira for the weekend. The Generals return home on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 to host the Motor City Mechanics.
