Kalamazoo Wings Week In Review

February 14, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Kalamazoo began their three game week on Wednesday (2/9) with the first of two meetings last week against the Flint Generals. The K-Wings pounded 22 shots on net in the first period, including goals from Shaun Fisher (8) and Tim Turner (16) and never looked back in their 3-1 victory over the Generals. Chad Alban stopped 32 shots to earn his 24th victory of the season.

The K-Wings continued their home stand on Friday (2/11) against the Adirondack Frostbite. Adirondack started the scoring in the opening period after Hugo Belanger capitalized on a K-Wings turnover by scoring his 24th goal of the season to give the Frostbite a 1-0 lead. After recently acquired Frostbite Greg Koehler (27) scored to make the score 2-0 in favor of the Adirondack, the K-Wings would mount a comeback by adding goals from Shaun Fisher (9) and Kevin Kotyluk (16) to tie the game at 2-2. In the third period, Trevor Segstro's short handed goal one minute into the final period proved to be the game-winning goal, as the Frostbite defeated the K-Wings 3-2.

Kalamazoo concluded the week on Saturday (2/12) against the same team they started it against, the Flint Generals. The line of Tyler Willis, Kevin Kotyluk, and Yannick Carpentier dominated for the K-Wings. Willis tied a season high for the K-Wings by collecting four points in the team's 6-4 victory. Kotyluk added two goals and Carpentier extended his point streak to five games by chiming in with three assists, as the K-Wings defeated their intra-state rivals for the second time in the week.

Fast Forward

The Kalamazoo Wings will start their five games in seven night's week tonight (2/14) as the K-Wings host the Rockford IceHogs in the 5th Annual Pink Ice Game. The K-Wings are 1-2-0 against the IceHogs this season. Rockford enters the week with the top winning percentage in the UHL. The Pink Ice Game will also feature a live wedding during the first period intermission.

On Wednesday (2/16), the K-Wings will hit the road to battle their arch-rivals the Fort Wayne Komets. The K-Wings are 1-2-0 against the Komets, who start the week in second place in the Western Division.

On Friday (2/19), Kalamazoo will host the Missouri River Otters. The Otters are third place in the UHL's Western Division. Missouri enters the week on a four game winning streak. The K-Wings are 5-0-0 against the Otters this season.

On Saturday (2/19), the K-Wings will go back on the road with an intra-state battle against the Flint Generals. After losing their first meeting of the season, the K-Wings have rattled off three straight victories over the Generals, including two last week. The Generals start the week in third place in the Central Division.

Kalamazoo will finish off the week at home on Sunday (2/20) against the Port Huron Beacons. Kalamazoo is 4-0-0 against Port Huron this season. The Beacons start the week in fourth place in the Central Division.

Pretty in Pink

The K-Wings will host the Rockford IceHogs tonight in their 5th Annual Pink Ice Game. The K-Wings are 1-3-0 on Pink Ice; however, the K-Wings enter the game on a Pink Ice winning streak because of their victory last year against the Richmond River Dogs.

Five Alive

K-Wings forward Yannick Carpentier enters the week on the five-game point and assist streak. The five game streaks both tie the K-Wings season high their respective categories.

Nearing a Milstone

Forward Andrew Luciuk is closing in on a personal milestone. The veteran forward needs just four points to reach 400 for his career.

How the West Is Won

The K-Wings have faired well against the UHL's Western Division. On the season, the K-Wings are 15-5-0 against teams from the west.

The Obscure Stat of the Week

The K-Wings are no strangers to playing on holidays. So far this season, the K-Wings are 3-0-0 on holiday games. Lifetime, the K-Wings are 12-8-1. The K-Wings have two more games that will be played on holidays. Tonight the K-Wings will play the Rockford IceHogs in their annual Pink Ice Game presented by WKFR and WOTV and on March 17th, the K-Wings will host the Fort Wayne Komets during their "World Famous" St. Patrick's Day Green Ice game presented by Fifth-Third Bank, WRKR, and WOTV.
