Sylvain Daigle UHL Goaltender of the Week
February 14, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, MI.---The reigning Colonial Cup Champions of the United Hockey League, the current Central Division and co-league leading Muskegon Fury, in conjunction with the UHL, have announced today that Fury goaltender SYLVAIN DAIGLE has been honored as SOUTHERN SPORTS SUPPLY / UHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK for the week of February 7th through February 13th.
In his 9th pro campaign and his 5th with the Fury, DAIGLE, 28, brilliantly backstopped his Muskegon squad to three momentous victories in as many days over the past weekend. In the process, head coach Todd Nelson's kinetic contingent extended its latest undefeated streak to 6-games; 6(5-0-1) and strengthened and lengthened its lead atop the Central Division standings while also surging into a tie for the overall UHL league-leadership with Western Division-leading Rockford.
This past weekend, facing a rigorous regimen of three games in three days, Daigle and his Fury teammates were extraordinary. With Muskegon's "masked mystic marvel" at the top of his game, the Fury posted a perfect 3(3-0-0) mark with the "Sly-Guy" grudgingly surrendering a menial 2-GA in 180-minutes of action while rebuking 93 of 95-shots.
The torrid weekend commenced Friday night when Daigle and company extinguished redoubtable Danbury in a 4-0 shutout triumph, brushing aside all 27-Trashers' shots. For the Ste. Hyacinthe PQ native, it was his first shutout of the season and the 8th of his illustrious 5-year Fury career; equaling Joe Dimaline for the most Muskegon career shutouts. Saturday night, in Fraser, facing an NHL-accentuated Motor City Mechanics aggregation, Daigle was a human barricade in rebuffing 42 of 43-shots to spearhead a Fury 3-1 throttling of the Mechanics. The weekend of perfection became complete in a Sunday matinee feature presentation when the Daigle blockade struck again. This time the Fury's two-time MVP turned aside 24-Flint attempts in the spine-tingling, thrilling theatre of a 2-1 OTSO triumph over the Generals.
In all three games, Daigle was acclaimed the game's #1 Star as he registered a GAA for the week of a microscopic 0.67 and a SPCT of a scintillating .979.
The UHL playoffs' record-breaking, history-making MVP of the Fury's Colonial Cup III recently returned to Muskegon back on January 14th after beginning the current season playing for the London Racers of the Elite European League.
For the season, Daigle has distinguished himself, again, with an overall record of 10(6-4-0) with a GAA of a shrinking 1.89 and SPCT of a soaring .934.
The first-place Fury 55(34-15-6)74 resume league action this weekend with a pair of home appearances at Walker Arena. This Friday night, a long-time abrasive arch-rivalry is rekindled when the Fury lock antlers with Quad City before the Richmond RiverDogs come calling Saturday night on the Fury's annual "Beach Night" extravaganza. Game time both nights is set for 7:30 pm.
