MUSKEGON, MI.--- Continuing to capitalize on their recent Huber Trophy Regular Season Championship, the Muskegon Lumberjacks may also speak of a most pronounced, prominent and dominant presence on the 2009-10 International Hockey League All-Star Team.
On this date, the Lumberjacks, in concert with the IHL, have announced that three standout members of this season's first place finishing club have been named to the circuit's First All-Star Team. Earning berths on the star-studded team are center TODD ROBINSON, right wing ROBIN BOUCHARD and defenseman MATT KRUG.
The Lumberjacks awesome and then-some threesome, dominate the league's best of the rest as they comprise one-half of the six players all-star galaxy contingent. Completing the cast are Fort Wayne goaltender Tim Haun, Port Huron defenseman Daniel Tetrault and Bloomington left wing Craig Macdonald.
ROBINSON, 31, enjoyed yet another banner season for the league-leaders. The 11th year pro, in his 9th Muskegon campaign, captured his second consecutive league scoring crown and third in the last 4-seasons with a prolific 109-points in 74-games on 21-goals and league-high 88-assists along with a superb +20 rating. It was "T.Rob's" sixth 100-points' season and fifth under the employ of the Muskegon club. His 88-assists were 30-more than the rest of the IHL while his league-best 37-PP/assists were 14-more than all others. Named the Lumberjacks team MVP for a second consecutive season and fourth time in a Muskegon uniform, the Trail, B.C. native recorded the two longest point-scoring streaks of the regular season at 16-games; 16(3-23-26) and 13-games; 13(9-19-28). He also assembled an 11-game streak; 11(2-16-18). The Lumberjacks captain crowned his latest All-Star season by reaching the magical 1,000-points plateau for his extraordinary pro career. This is Robinson's second successive league-wide All-Star berth, his third in the last 4-years and his sixth overall since his arrival on the Muskegon hockey scene back in 2000-01. He has been a member of the last three Muskegon league championship teams.
BOUCHARD, 36, defied time and belied age as the 16-year pro veteran seemed to turn back the clock with his most remarkable, historical season in a season for the ages and all-time. The record-breaking, history-making "Gun-Sling King" became the greatest goal-scoring cannoneer ever in the annals of minor pro hockey lore when he connected on career goal #683 on March 21st in a `Jacks 5-2 triumph on home ice at Walker Arena against Quad City. The Muskegon franchise all-time career kingpin in total goals and points climaxed the campaign in attaining yet one more enormous record as he scored a record-setting 60th goal on April 16th at Dayton to clinch the Huber Trophy coronation of the IHL nation for his Lumberjacks. "Bouch Almighty's" 60th strike not only represented a personal single-season best but also established a new Muskegon single season standard, eclipsing his own mark of 59-goals previously set in the 2005-06 campaign. Named the IHL's Most Valuable Player for the first time ever, the Jonquiere, PQ product was runner-up to linemate Robinson in the league scoring derby with 101-points in 68-games on 60-goals, 41-assists along with a +21 rating. His 60-goals were 16-more than the rest of the loop and represented his fifth 50-goals/plus season while his 101-points marked his fourth century-point year and third in Muskegon. For an unprecedented ninth time he led the league in PPG with 20. He also cannonaded a league-high 14-multiple goal games and the first-ever 4-goal game of his prodigious career. He also engineered the IHL's longest goal streak of the season at 8-games; 8(10-2-12). Bouchard culminated the campaign with a crescendo, blazing 18-goals in the last 17-games and an amazing 36-goals in the last 38-games. When attaining the record of 683-career goals, "Rockin" Robin fired the last 32-goals in 32-games, wearing his famous jersey #32. He completed the season with 687-career goals and 705-in total including his one season of pro hockey in 2006-07 in Italy. This is Bouchard's seventh All-Star Team berth. He has been a member of the last 4-Muskegon championship teams.
KRUG, 24, emerged as a crowd favorite throughout the season with his brute, physical prowess through his bone-bruising body belts. The collegiate product of Detroit's Wayne State U., and later Robert Morris U., captured the IHL scoring crown for defensemen when he amassed 47-points in 75-games on 14-goals, 33-assists with 209-PIM. The rugged, ruffian, rock-ribbed rearguard also led the league blue line brigade in goals and PPG, collecting 9 in the latter department. Krug achieved an excellent +16 rating while his 209-PIM paced all IHL rookies as did his 42-minors. He was circuit second in SOG for defensemen with 179 as well as finishing circuit sixth in league point-productivity among rookies. "King-Kong-Krug's" crowning achievement came earlier this month when he was honored as the IHL's Best Defenseman for the 2009-10 season; an extraordinary accomplishment as a rookie pro.
The Lumberjacks launch their quest with zest for a complete sweep of the league's major hallowed hardware with Games #1 and #2 of the best-of-7 Turner Cup Playoffs Semi-Finals series against the Flint Generals this Friday and Saturday nights, April 23rd and 24th respectively at 7:00 pm at Muskegon's Walker Arena.
