Kalamazoo Wings Week In Review For the Week of November 4th-November 10th

Record Last Week: 1-0-1 Overall Record 2-5-2

Game Rewind The K-Wings played two games last weekend. Kalamazoo started the week on Friday (11/1), as they traveled to Muskegon to battle the Fury. Muskegon would start the scoring early in first period on a goal by Andrew Luciuk (6). The K-Wings would strike back less then two minutes later on a power play goal from Justin Cardwell (5). Muskegon would regain the lead midway in the period with a power play goal Scott Feezby (2). The score would remain 2-1 until 5.7 seconds remaining in the third period, when Peter Roed scored his team leading 6th goal of the season to tie the game at 2-2. The game would head into a shootout, where the Fury would outscore the K-Wings 2-1 through 8 skaters to give the Fury a 3-2 victory over the K-Wings.

Kalamazoo was looking to end a 6 game winless streak as they returned home on Saturday (11/2) to play Rockford IceHogs. Rockford entered the game in a first place tie with Quad City for first place honors in the Western Conference. The K-Wings started the games scoring midway through the opening period, as Richard Keyes collected his third goal of the season on a power play goal to give Kalamazoo a one-nothing lead. The K-Wings would extend their lead to 2-0 when Kirill Alexeev scored his first professional goal to give the K-Wings a 2-0 lead. The score would remain 2-0 until the second period, when the K-Wings would strike again, this time it would be Tyson Turgeon that would score his first professional goal to make the score 3-nothing Kalamazoo. The K-Wings would conclude the games scoring the third period, when Justin Cardwell scored a 5 on 4 empty net goal, to give the K-Wings a 4-0 victory over Rockford. K-Wing net minder Jeff Reynaert stopped 25 shots to record his first professional shutout.

Fast Forward The K-Wings will hit the frozen floors of the United Hockey League three times this week. The K-Wings will play tomorrow night (11/6) against Rockford in the Rockford Metrocenter. The K-Wings are 1-0-0 against the IceHogs this season. Rockford enters the game on a three game losing streak, including a 4-0 loss to the K-Wings last Saturday night in Wings Stadium. Rockford starts the week in a tie for third place in the Western Conference with the Missouri River Otters.

The K-Wings return home to start a four game home stand on Friday, November 8th, as they host the Fort Wayne Komets. The game will be the third between the teams this season, but the first in the regular season. Kalamazoo and Fort Wayne split their two-preseason games, with each team winning on their own home ice. Fort Wayne starts the week in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, however they are just 9 points behind Port Huron for first place. The K-Wings trail the all-time series against Fort Wayne with a record of 7-13-7. The Komets are led by Tom Lawson and Dustin Virag. Lawson enters the week with a GAA of 2.07, which places him third in the UHL. Virag leads the Komets in scoring with 12 points. Dustin's 12 points also puts him in a tie for 12th in the UHL in scoring. The game will also coincide with Harley Davidson Night. The first 1,000 fans into Wings Stadium will receive a K-Wings poster courtesy of Perry Harley Davidson and WRCC.

The K-Wings will conclude the week on Saturday (11/9), when Kalamazoo host the Muskegon Fury. The game will be the third meeting between the teams. The K-Wings are 1-1-1 against the Fury this season, however they dropped their lone appearance at Wings Stadium (10/25/02) by the final of 4-1. The game will also coincide with the K-Wings and WLKM welcoming the Los Angeles Laker Girls to Wings Stadium. The Laker Girls will be performing during both intermissions, as well as signing autographs during the game. Reynaert Suspended The UHL suspended K-Wing goaltender Jeff Reynaert for two games due to actions during the Muskegon game on 11/1/02. Jeff will miss games tomorrow against Rockford and against Fort Wayne on Friday. Reynaert will be able to return to action Saturday night versus Muskegon.

Top Goaltender Due to his great play between the pipes last weekend, K-Wings Jeff Reynaert starts this week as the UHL leader in goals against average. Jeff has a GAA of 2.02. Peter the Great K-Wing forward Peter Roed has been on tear since the start of the season. Roed is currently tied for 8th place in the UHL in scoring with 11 points. Peter has also scored in 8 of the K-Wings 9 games this season. Roed is currently on a 4 game scoring streak, which ties a team high this season, also held by Peter.

Justin Credible K-Wing forward Justin Cardwell enters this week on a 2 game goal streak. Justin has scored in four of the K-Wings last 5 games.

K-Wings Add 4th Goaltender With Alban still injured and Reynaert suspended the K-Wings have signed goaltender Kevin Hulsey. Hulsey played his college hockey at Northern Michigan University.

Kalamazoo Releases Foddrill The Kalamazoo Wings announce they have released forward Craig Foddrill

Power Serge Entering their game against Rockford tomorrow, the K-Wings power play unit has scored 5 of the K-Wings last 10 goals. Shut the Door Last Saturday, was the K-Wings 6th shutout the franchises UHL history, and their first since November 24, 2002, when former K-Wing Scott Langkow stopped 19 shots to blank the Knoxville Smoke. The shutout on Saturday, was also the first professional shutout for K-Wings goaltender Jeff Reynaert.

The Obscure Stat of the Week So far this season the K-Wings are 2-0-0 when they lead after two periods of play. In the franchise's UHL history the K-Wings are 75-23-05.
