Ice Dogs' Kenady, Buzak Earn WCHL Awards

LONG BEACH, Calif. – November 5, 2002 – The West Coast Hockey League announced today that Long Beach Ice Dogs right wing Chris Kenady has been named WCHL's Player of the Week and goaltender Mike Buzak has been named the League's Goaltender of the week for the week concluding November 4, 2002.

Kenady earns the weekly honor after tallying six goals and 10 points in three games. Kenady's point collection included his first hat trick of the season against the Anchorage Aces last Friday night at Long Beach Arena. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound forward had a plus/minus rating of +6 on the week as well. Currently in his second season with the Ice Dogs, Kenady leads the team in points with 13. Last season, the Mound, Minnesota native racked up 69 points in 69 games for Long Beach and was named to the All-WCHL Second Team.

Buzak earns Goaltender of the Week honors after turning in a 2-0-0 record last week with a 2.50 goals against average and a .891 save percentage. His five goals against and 41 saves helped build a three-game series sweep against Anchorage and extend the team's winning streak to four. Buzak made his season debut during the Ice Dogs' home opener on October 26th against San Diego with 26 saves and his first win (3-2). The Edson, Alberta native led the WCHL last season with a 2.39 GAA while posting a 23-15-1 record with a .909 save percentage. Buzak currently sits in fourth place amongst WCHL goaltenders with a 2.33 GAA and a .903 save percentage and is the only goaltender without a loss this season.
