Wheeling Nailers News Release

WHEELING, WV – The Wheeling Nailers announce today that Bobby Russell has been assigned to Wheeling from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League. Russell will be in the Nailers lineup beginning Friday night in Johnstown.

Before this season began, Russell attended the Pittsburgh Penguins NHL training camp before making the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins roster. He appeared in five games this season for the AHL Penguins without registering a point and accumulating four penalty minutes.

Russell, a 24-year-old native of Surrey, BC, played for the Norfolk Admirals of the AHL last season recording 12 points on five goals and seven assists in 61 games. Russell began his professional career with the ECHL's Hampton Roads Admirals in 1998 for current Nailers head coach John Brophy. He also played for the Jackson Bandits of the ECHL for the 2000-2001 season where he scored 68 points on 38 goals and 30 assists in 69 games.

"I have known Bobby Russell for a long time and he is a great hockey player," stated Brophy. "Russell will be an immediate impact player for us, maybe just the shot in the arm we need to string together a few wins."

In other player moves, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have recalled defenseman David Koci and forward Michel Ouellet. Each player appeared in seven games with the Nailers. Ouellet scored four points on three goals and one assist, Koci had 12 penalty minutes without registering a point.

The Nailers play three games this weekend, Friday in Johnstown, Saturday in Roanoke and Sunday at the Wheeling Civic Center against the Cincinnati Cyclones. Sunday's game will begin at 6:00p.m. with the first 1,500 fans receiving a Nailers Miniature Puck Keychain courtesy of Whiteside, "The Official GM Dealership of the Wheeling Nailers".
