Alaska Aces News Release

FRESNO, Calif. – The Anchorage Aces rallied from 2-0 and 3-1 deficits to pull out a 4-3 victory over the Fresno Falcons and snap their seven-game losing streak Monday night at Selland Arena.

Fresno broke open a scoreless game midway through the first period with two shorthanded goals coming 39 seconds part by Austin De Luis and Iain Fraser. But after a terrific save by Christian Soucy on Falcon forward Scott Borders prevented another shorthanded goal, Anchorage sliced the deficit in half as Yvan Corbin scored on the power play from Dean Larson with 1:08 left in the period.

Mike Mathers fired home a loose puck at 11:50 of the second period to increase the margin to 3-1, but Don Martin answered only 52 seconds later with a soft wrist shot that slipped past Fresno netminder Mark Gowan from the top of the right circle. Trailing 3-2 heading into the third period, the Aces took advantage of a Falcon turnover as Eric Landry found Corbin, who deked Gowan, then roofed a backhander to forge a deadlock with 7:11 left in regulation. With Fresno reeling, Anchorage converted an odd-man rush as Jarret Zukiwsky slithered a pass across to J.J. Wrobel, who snapped the puck past Gowan for the game-winner at 14:49.

Soucy held the Falcons at bay, finishing with 30 saves, including all 12 shots he faced over the final 20 minutes. Corbin scored twice to regain the WCHL goal-scoring lead with nine, while Larson (two assists) remained tied with his linemate for the league lead in overall scoring with 15 points.

Anchorage returns to action Friday, November 15th at 7:00 p.m. when the San Diego Gulls invade Sullivan Arena for the first of a three-game series that continues Saturday at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday at 5:00 p.m. All games are broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.anchorageaces.com or www.kfqd.com with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
