---FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2002 VS. ALBANY RIVER RATS ---

The Springfield Falcons and Albany River Rats will meet for the second time this season when they face off on Friday at the Springfield Civic Center. The Falcons won the last meeting between these two teams, beating the River Rats 2-1 at the Pepsi Arena in Albany. Albany is currently in first place in the East Division with a 5-4-2 record for 12 points. Albany is 1-0-1 in their last two games. Albany has struggled away from home this year with a 1-2-2 record. The Falcons are currently 2-3 when playing on home ice. Craig Darby leads the River Rats and is tied for second in the league in points with 16, three goals and 13 assists. Darby is also the league leader in assists. Ray Giroux leads all AHL defensemen in scoring and is tied for 13th in the league with 13 points, four goals and nine assists. Joe Hulbig and Dave Roche lead the team in goals with five each. Four of Hulbig's goals have come on the power play. Rob Skrlac and Mike Matteucci lead the team in penalty minutes with 47 and 46 respectively. Goaltender Scott Clemmensen ranks fourth among AHL goalies with a record of 2-2-2, a 2.27 GAA and a .917 save percentage. Goaltender Ari Ahonen is 3-2, including one shutout, with a 3.28 GAA and a .889 save percentage. Albany ranks second in the league in power play efficiency, scoring on 20.0 percent of their opportunities. Albany's penalty kill is ranked 19th in the league, killing 82.8 percent of their shorthanded situations.

---SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2002 VS. WORCESTER ICECATS---

The Springfield Falcons will meet the Worcester IceCats for the second time in as many weeks when they face off on Saturday night at the Springfield Civic Center. The IceCats won the first meeting between these two teams 4-1 at the Centrum Centre in Worcester. Worcester is currently in third place in the North Division with a 5-4-1 record for 11 points. Worcester is 2-0 in their last two games. John Pohl leads AHL rookies and Worcester in scoring with six goals and eight assists for 14 points in nine games. Two of Pohl's goals have come on the power play and one was a game-winning goal. Sergei Varlamov is second in team scoring with 13 points, four goals and nine assists. Varlamov and Jame Pollock lead the team in assists with nine. Mark Rycroft is third in points with 10, four goals and six assists. Justin Papineau is tied with Pohl for the team lead in goals with six, four of which were scored on the power play. Brett Scheffelmaier leads the team in penalty minutes with 26. Steve McLaren is second with 24 penalty minutes and Igor Valeev is third with 23 penalty minutes. Goaltender Phil Osaer is 4-2-1 with a 2.82 GAA and an .893 save percentage. Goaltender Scott Stirling is 1-0 with a .840 save percentage and a 4.00 GAA. Worcester is ranked 11th in the AHL in power play efficiency, scoring on 17.3 percent of their opportunities. Worcester is ranked 26th in penalty killing, successfully killing 78.7 percent of their shorthanded situations.

PLAYER/TEAM NOTABLES:

Jeff Taffe is on a three-game points scoring streak, one goal and three assists.

Nikita Alexeev had his first AHL career two-goal game when he scored two power play goals, including the game winner in overtime, on Saturday night in a 4-3 win over Providence.

Ramzi Abid and Darren Rumble lead the Falcons in scoring with 12 points each.

Ramzi Abid leads the team in goals scored with six and power play goals with five, which is third best in the league.

Darren Rumble leads the team in assists with 10, including a three-assist night against Providence on Saturday night. Rumble is 2nd in the AHL in scoring among defensemen behind Albany's Ray Giroux.

Martin Grenier leads the team in penalty minutes with 47.

Evgeny Konstantinov has won his last two starts, allowing four goals and stopping 51 shots.

Springfield is 3-2 in their last five games.

Springfield has been outscored by their opponents 28-46 in 12 games.

TRANSACTIONS:

10-28-02 – Springfield Falcons sign centers Jason Bonsignore and Mike Harder to PTO contracts.

11-1-02 – Phoenix Coyotes reassign defenseman Dan Focht to Springfield.

11-4-02 – Phoenix Coyotes recall defenseman Dan Focht from Springfield.
