Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Record Last Week: 0-1-1 Overall Record 1-2-1
Game Rewind Last week, the K-Wings and the Flint Generals got to know one another real well, as the teams played a home and home series starting last Friday (10/18) in Flint. The K-Wings jumped out to an early lead as Mark Lawrence (1st) scored 10 seconds into the game to give Kalamazoo a 1-nothing lead. Besides giving the K-Wings the lead, the goal also gave Lawrence his 400th point of his career. Flint would tie the game at 1-1 later in the period, when Dale Greenwood (1st) scored on the power play. The Generals would continue their stellar special teams play at the 12:42 mark of the first period, when Jim Duhart (1st) scored a shorthanded goal to give Flint a 2-1 lead. Kalamazoo would counter 5 minutes later with a goal by Kurt Miller (2nd), as the K-Wings would make the scored 2-2 heading into the second period. Kalamazoo would regain the lead early in the second period, when Peter Roed scored his second goal of the season to give the K-Wings a 3-2 lead. Flint would eventually tie the game up with less then one minute remaining in the second period, on a wrap around goal by Martin Woods (2nd). The score would remain tied throughout the final 20 minutes of play and the game would head into a shootout. In the shootout, the Generals would prevail outscoring the K-Wings 2-0 in the extra session, as Flint defeated Kalamazoo 4-3 in a shootout.
The K-Wings and the Generals returned back to the ice on Saturday (10/19), as the K-Wings hosted Flint in the K-Wings home opener. Unlike the night before, it would be the Generals that would get on the board first, as Karel Betik (1st) scored on the power play to give Flint a 1-nothing lead. The K-Wings would tie the game up two minutes later, at the 12:36 mark of the first period, when Joe Pecoraro scored his first goal of the season to knot the game up at 1-1. The K-Wings would break the tie in the second period, when Lawrence found Richard Keyes open in the slot to give the K-Wings a 2-1 lead. Later in the period, the K-Wings would have to deal with some adversity, as starting goaltender Chad Alban would have to leave the game with an injury. Alban's replacement Brian Rogers would enter the game with a 2-1 lead. However, Flint's high powered offense would tie the game at 13:34 mark of the second period, when Lee Jelenic scored to make the score 2-2. In the third period, the Generals special teams would take control, as Martin Woods (3rd) scored on the power play to give Flint a 3-2 lead. The K-Wings would answer back with a goal of their own, as Peter Roed (4th) scored on the power play to tie the game at 3-3. The goal for Roed extended his scoring and his goal streak to 4 games; both are the longest streaks in the UHL. The Generals would get the eventual game winning goal with just under 5 minutes to play in the game, as Betik recorded his second goal of the game to give Flint at 4-3 lead. The Generals would add an insurance goal, just one minute later, when Bobby Reynolds (3rd) scored short handed, as the Generals would defeat Kalamazoo 5-3 to sweep the home and home series.
