Helenius Assigned To Grizzlies For Conditioning

WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH - The Utah Grizzlies National Hockey League (NHL) affiliate, the Dallas Stars, announced today that they have assigned defenseman Sami Helenius to the Grizzlies for the purpose of conditioning.

Helenius, 28, registered 58 penalty minutes in 39 games with Dallas last season. This season, he has been a healthy scratch in the Star's first seven games. During the 2000-01 season, the Helsinki, Finland native recorded career highs in games played (57), points (3), assists (2) and penalty minutes (99). His 99 penalty minutes ranked him second on the Stars. In his career, Helenius has played in 140 NHL games splitting games with Dallas, Colorado, Calgary and Tampa Bay.

The 6-6, 230-pound defenseman was originally drafted by Calgary in the fifth round of the 1992 NHL Entry Draft. The Star's signed Helenius as a free agent on July 12, 2000.
