Kalamazoo Wings News Release

KALAMAZOO- It didn't take forward Curtis Valk long to earn his first professional accolade. Three weeks into this rookie season with the Kalamazoo Wings, Valk has been honored as the CCM ECHL Player of the Month for October.

Scoring in all six games in the month, Valk ended October with 10 points (4 goals, six assists) and was +4 to help Kalamazoo to a 4-1-1-0 record.

Highlighting the month of October, Valk posted two multi-point performances against the Elmira Jackals (10/18) and against the Cincinnati Cyclones (10/15). Valk closed out the month by registering the game-winning goal on Halloween against the Fort Wayne Komets.

Valk leads all ECHL rookies and is second overall in the league in scoring with 11 points (4 goals, 7 assists). His four goals ties him for first among all first-year players.

Under contract to the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League, Valk recorded 255 points (125 goals, 130 assists) in 270 career Western Hockey League games with the Medicine Hat Tigers. Last season, Valk was tied for fourth in the WHL with 47 goals and was 11th with 92 points.

Valk becomes the third member (Trent Daavattila, Nick Sirota) in the K-Wings' ECHL history to receive the league's monthly honor. Kalamazoo joined the ECHL during the 2009-10 season.
