November 5, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Elmira Jackals News Release

EVANSVILLE, I.N. - November 5, 2014 - The Jackals rolled into Evansville to take on former bench boss Dwight Mullins and the Icemen on Education Day at the Ford Center. Despite the 9:30 a.m. puck drop each team came out swinging and scored twice in the first period. Former Icemen Mike Seidel scored the game-winning-goal on the power-play to propel the Jackals to a 3-2 victory.

Brayden Irwin gave the Jackals a 1-0 lead 8:59 into the opening frame with a blast from the right circle over Cal Heeter's left shoulder. Matt Tassone moved the puck over to Irwin from center ice, but fell down awkwardly as he drove to the net and left the game with a lower-body injury. Irwin's sixth of the season extended his point streak to eight games (six goals, seven assists) to open the season. Tassone's assist pushes his point streak to four games (five goals, four assists) as he is the reigning Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week. Evansville's Myles Bell and Patrick Kennedy scored 3:10 apart in the first period to put the Icemen ahead 2-1. But, Clarkson product Allan McPherson answered at 16:51 of the opening frame with his fifth of the season. McPherson won the offensive zone faceoff to Thomas Nesbitt, who moved the puck to Steven Shamanski at the point for a shot on goal that was redirected by McPherson.

Former Icemen Mike Seidel was the beneficiary of Andrew Conboy's net-front presence on the man advantage at 6:36 of the second period. Shamanski moved the puck across the blueline to Nick Tuzzolino, who's shot wasn't handled by Heeter and Seidel was in the slot to clean up the rebound. Seidel has points in three consecutive games to open his Jackals career. Elmira out-shot Evansville 21-7 in the second frame.

The Jackals stifling defense shut down the Icemen's attack and didn't allow Evansville to enter the offensive zone cleanly throughout the final 20 minutes. Goaltender Travis Fullerton stood tall and turned aside 27 of 29 shots faced to earn his fourth victory of the season. Heeter stopped 38 of 41 shots faced but was handed the loss. The Jackals have won four straight games and carry their momentum into Kalamazoo to take on the Wings for the final two meetings this season.
