IceMen Tripped up by Elmira 3-2

EVANSVILLE, Ind.- In front of a crowd of 7,607 screaming children, the Evansville IceMen presented by Coors Light, tasted defeat for the first time on home ice in 2014-15 as they fell to the Elmira Jackals by a score of 3-2. The IceMen remain in fourth place in the North Division as they drop to 3-1-0-1 on the year, while the Jackals improve 5-2-0-1 and enter a tie for first place in the Eastern Division.

Elmira struck first. Brayden Irwin scored on a slapshot to give the Jackals a 1-0 lead. Irwin, the ECHL's leading scorer, netted his sixth of the season and his 13th point on an assist from Matt Tassone.

Midway through the first period, the IceMen answered as Myles Bell banged in a cross ice feed from Matt Lowry to tie the game at one. The returning Peter Sakaris picked up his first assist of the season on Bell's third goal of the year.

Three minutes later, Evansville took the lead. A pass from Jarret Lukin allowed Patrick Kennedy to skate in free at the net. Kennedy torched one past Travis Fullerton to give the IceMen a 2-1 advantage. Kennedy's team leading fourth goal of the year also had help from Brandon Wong.

Later in the first, Elmira's Allen McPherson deflected in a shot from Steven Shamansky to tie the game. The team's enter the second period deadlocked at two.

On the power play for the third time in the second period, former IceMen forward Mike Seidel lit the lamp against his former team, when he put in a rebound to give the Jackals a 3-2 lead. Nick Tuzzolino and Shamanski added the assists as Elmira held a one goal advantage entering the third. The Jackals outshot the IceMen 21-7 in the second frame.

With less than two minutes to go in regulation, the IceMen found themselves on their third power play of the game as Tuzzolino was called for slashing. Evansville peppered Fullerton with shots, but could not score as they fell for the first time in regulation by a score of 3-2.

Cal Heeter stopped 38 of the 41 shots he saw, as he record dives to 3-1-0-0 on the year. His counterpart Fullerton moves to 4-2-0-1 on the strength of a 27 save performance.

The IceMen are back in action Friday night as they take on the Wheeling Nailers. It will be Youth Jersey Night presented by TRCI. The first 1,000 kids 12 & under will receive a free youth jersey. The IceMen's Education Day jerseys will also be auctioned off following the game.
