K-Wings Roll to Victory During Final Home Game of Year
March 25, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings exploded for four goals in the second period on their way to a 6-1 victory over the Cincinnati Cyclones on Sunday afternoon at Wings Stadium.
With the puck behind the net, Ondrej Roman found Mathieu Aubin sliding in front for a quick pass and goal 12:58 into the opening period.
Bouncing back nearly two minutes later, Kory Karlander (18th) settled in the right circle and sent a wrist shot through the legs of Brian Foster. Karlander extended his point streak to six games, while Nick Sirota, who received a primary assist on the tally, pushed his point streak to seven games.
Taking advantage of their lone power-play chance of the period, the K-Wings jumped ahead with a tally from John Kivisto (2nd) with 59.7 seconds remaining in the period.
Putting the game out of reach in the second period, Kalamazoo erupted for four goals in the stanza, including a pair of goals 20 seconds apart. After stealing the puck in the K-Wings zone, Prab Rai sent a long breakout pass to the Justin Taylor, who tipped the puck past Foster, who came out of net to challenge the play.
Off the ensuing face-off, the K-Wings raced up the ice and answered again, this time it was Darryl Bootland sending a cross rink pass to Dustin Cloutier for this 13th goal of the season.
Kalamazoo's power-play kept clicking in the middle stanza, as the K-Wings earned their second man-advantage strike with the slap shot from Elgin Reid (7th).
The highlight goal of the night happened 16:10 into the period. After breaking his stick, Sirota in soccer fashion kicked the puck up through two zones and left it to Kory Karlander, who waited for Sirota to get a new stick, and fed it back to him for his 20th goal of the season. The goal also extend Sirota's goal streak to seven games.
Kalamazoo will begin a four-game road swing this Wednesday, March 28th with a 7 p.m. encounter at the Huntington Center against the Toledo Walleye.
