Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
KALAMAZOO, Michigan - After the Cyclones took an early 1-0 lead, the Kalamazoo Wings (36-25-2-6) scored six unanswered goals to defeat the Cincinnati Cyclones (33-27-2-7) by a 6-1 final score in front of 3,468 at Wings Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
For the fourth game in a row, Cincinnati was able to strike first as Ondrej Roman fed Mathieu Aubin in the slot and banged in his 29th of the season past Wings goaltender Riley Gill (W, 30 saves, 23-14-1-4) at 12:58. However, Kory Karlander beat Cyclones goaltender Brian Foster (L, 15 saves, 14-10-1-1) with a low wrist shot at the 14:40 mark to knot things at one. Then, with one minute to play, the Wings capitalized on a late man advantage as John Kivisto one-timed a slap shot through Foster to give Kalamazoo a 2-1 lead at the first intermission.
The Wings continued to find offense in the middle frame, as they added four more goals to their total. Justin Taylor and Dustin Cloutier lit the lamp 19 seconds apart beginning at 9:22 to make it 4-1. Following the strike, Foster was pulled and Chet Pickard (ND, 10 saves, 14-12-0-2) came on in relief. Unfortunately, the Kalamazoo offense continued; at the 12:33 mark Elgin Reid buried his seventh goal of the season on the power play with a blast from the left side, extending the Wings cushion to 5-1. Then, at 16:10, Nick Sirota caught a pass from Kory Karlander in the low rim of the right circle and sent a shot through Pickard's legs, making it a 6-1 game after 40 minutes.
Although the Cyclones sent 17 shots on net in the final frame, they were unable to beat Gill and the Wings won the season series finale with Cincinnati by a 6-1 final score. Cincinnati finished with 2011-12 season with a 5-7-2 record against Nick Bootland's club.
