Chicago Express News Release

Hoffman Estates, IL - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, rallied for four goals in the third period to come back and defeat the Kalamazoo Wings 5-4 at the Sears Centre Arena on Saturday night.

Much like last night's contest, Kalamazoo got on the board early, this time just a mere 26 seconds into the first period. Wings C Justin Taylor fed an unmarked LW Dwight Helminen a pass in the slot that Helminen snapped past an unsuspecting G Rob Madore. Helminen added another tally 10 minutes later on a 4-on-4 when he fended off a stick lift and buried a shot over Madore's glove into the top right corner of the goal. The Wings held an 8-6 shot advantage in the opening frame.

The second period saw the Wings adding onto their lead when F Nick Sirota took a pass from D Elgin Reid and tapped a one-timer past an outstretched Madore who was spread out into the splits. Chicago answered back with a goal of their own on a 4-on-3 advantage when D Darcy Campbell faked a shot and fed Jonathan Zion the puck to the left of the net as the converted defenseman put a goal past Wings G Riley Gill at 18:20 to make the score 3-1.

Kalamazoo would regain a three goal lead just over a minute into the final frame when LW Darren Archibald, while on a 5-on-3 advantage, picked up a pass and snapped a one-time home as the Wings led 4-1. Chicago began to turn the tide just over six minutes later, as C Aaron Marvin led a shorthanded rush up the ice and snapped a pass to D Darcy Campbell who ripped the shot home and cut the Wings lead to 4-2. The Express pulled to within one with 6:48 left in the game. Zion rattled home his second of the night after his initial shot was blocked, came right back to him, and he snapped his second effort into the back of the net. D Taylor Ellington evened the score up at 4-4 less than two minutes later, as broke in along the left wing and beat Gill through the five-hole. LW Danick Paquette completed the comeback, striking for Chicago's fourth goal of the frame, as he split two Wings defenders, deked Gill out of the net, and buried a backhander to grant Chicago the victory.

The Express handed Kalamazoo their first regulation loss when the Wings were leading after two periods of play... The Express were whistled for 98 minutes in penalties, setting a season high for PIM in a single game... D Jonathan increased his scoring streak to four games, where he has four goals and three assists... Chicago played their final Saturday night home game of the year, finishing with a record of 6-2-3 at home on Saturday.

The Express host the Toledo Walleye at the Sears Centre Arena tomorrow afternoon. After the game, everyone in attendance is invited to skate with the team for free.
