Jackals Tie League Shootout Record in 3-2 Win

Wheeling, W.V. - The Elmira Jackals (43-22-2-2) tied the ECHL record in the league's overtime/shootout era with their 11th shootout victory of the season on Sunday afternoon at WesBanco Arena, coming from two goals down to defeat the Wheeling Nailers (35-25-4-5), 3-2. Jackals goaltender Brian Stewart improved his perfect career shootout record to 13-0 in the win.

Chris Barton tipped a center-point shot from Adam Ross past Stewart at 9:54 of the opening frame to give Wheeling a 1-0 lead.

Peter Child increased the Nailers' advantage to 2-0, firing in a shot from the left point at 13:00 of the second.

Corey Cowick put Elmira on the board with the Jackals on their second power play of the contest, spinning a shot in from the slot at 14:48 to make it 2-1.

Artem Demkov took a feed from Dustin Gazley and banked a puck into the net off of a Nailer at 8:30 of the final frame, giving the Jackals their second man-advantage tally and tying the game, 2-2.

After a scoreless overtime, the Jackals connected on four of five chances in the shootout. Demkov, Mike Radja, Jordan Pietrus, and Matt Campanale all converted for Elmira, while Zach Hansen and Andrew Hotham accounted for Wheeling's two shootout tallies.

Stewart (25-11-1-0) made 40 saves on 42 shots in regulation and overtime. He is 10-0 in his ECHL career in shootouts, including 9-0 this season, and is 3-0 in the AHL in shootouts. In net for Wheeling, Nick Niedert (2-1-1-2) stopped 31 shots.

The Jackals head to Trenton to take on the Titans on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Elmira returns to First Arena for its final regular season home game on Friday, Mar. 30 at 7:35 p.m. against the Reading Royals. The Lexington Men O' War (2002-2003) and the Greenville Grrrowl (2004-2005) earned 11 shootout wins in their respective seasons as the Jackals became the third team in the current era to win 11 shootouts...The Toledo Storm won a record 17 shootouts in 1995-1996 when ECHL games went directly from regulation to a shootout...Elmira's 90 points on the season set a new franchise record in ECHL play, breaking the previous mark of 89 (2007-2008)...Gazley became the first ECHL skater to achieve a 10-game assist streak (3g-10a)...He extended his road point streak to 18 games (7g-22a)...The comeback victory was Elmira's 22nd of the season...The Jackals have won nine games when trailing by two goals and has won a league-best 11 games when facing a deficit after two periods...The one-goal win was Elmira's ECHL-high 24th of the season...Radja's shootout goal was his ECHL-best ninth on 11 chances...The 43rd win is the most for the Jackals since joining the ECHL...Elmira has won five-straight games and six-straight on the road...The Jackals, who clinched the Atlantic Division on Saturday night, are one point behind the Gwinnett Gladiators for first place in the Eastern Conference with three-games remaining...Stewart has allowed just six goals on 37 shootout attempts in 2011-2012
