Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud members of the United Hockey League, announce that 1,250 teddy bears were tossed on the ice during the Sixth Annual Teddy Bear Toss game sponsored by WOTV and WKFR last Saturday, December 17th at Wings Stadium.
While the K-Wings won the game 4-0 last Saturday against the Adirondack Frostbite, the biggest winners during the game were the kids around southwest Michigan that will receive one of the 1,250 bears tossed during the K-Wings annual game.
The bears collected were donated to the Angel Tree foundation, who will give the bears to underprivileged children in southwest Michigan.
"Our fans made the holiday a special one for many kids," said Vice President/General Manager Paul L. Pickard. "The image of seeing the ice filled with bears and knowing where they are going is really the true meaning of the holidays."
The Kalamazoo Wings will also deliver some bears this Thursday, December 22nd, when they visit Bronson Hospital. K-Wing players Nick Bootland, Tyler Willis, Tyler Rennette, and Josh Elzinga will join Santa Claus in spreading the holiday spirit starting at 2 p.m.
Over the past six years, the K-Wings have collected thousands of stuffed animals that were distributed to children during the holidays.
The K-Wings return home this Friday night, when they host the two-time defending champions, the Muskegon Fury at 7:30 p.m. The game, which is the last for the K-Wings before Christmas, will be even more special as Santa Claus pays a visit to Wings Stadium.
Tickets for the Muskegon game, as well as all K-Wings home games are available by calling the Wings Stadium Ticket Office at (269) 345-5101. Ticket office hours are Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday's from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.ticketmaster.com.
